Resumo

Water pollution presents itself as a relevant problem in the national scenario, since the use of water resources is essential for the maintenance of life. Thus, practices involving environmental education are necessary to conserve water resources and one of the ways to promote it is through the teacher in the school unit. Didactic games are useful tools in this process, which facilitate teaching and learning and can assist in the development of students with special needs. In this sense, this work aims to promote environmental awareness about water resources, in students with intellectual disabilities from the 6th to the 8th grade of elementary school, from the Escola Estadual Professor Irineu da Gama Paes. For this, the following methodology was applied: 1) firstly observations were made regarding the teacher and each student in order to know their specificities; 2) interviews were applied to verify the students' previous knowledge, as well as those acquired during the intervention on the water theme; and, finally, 3) application of educational games (syllabic, memory and trail) with the theme of water resources. As a result of this research, it was found that students with ID presented limitations in terms of reading, writing and temporality, as well as difficulties in memorization and attention. As for teachers, they use different teaching methodologies, such as the use of digital games and crosswords, which have been shown to be efficient in teaching and learning in students with ID. Regarding the interviews, the students already had previous knowledge about the water theme and demonstrated a better performance in the final interview, after the application of the activities. In this sense, it is concluded that this playful methodology, through the use of educational games, is effective in the teaching-learning process in students with ID.
