Resumo
This paper aims to understand the process of female incarceration at the Institute of Penitentiary Administration of Amapá - IAPEN. In 2016, INFOPEN Women conducted a survey that found that Brazil's female prison population increased by 656% from 2000 to 2016. It found that the number of inmates in the country is over 42,000, in which only 107 of these belong to the state of Amapá. The objective of this research is to analyze the prison environment that permeates the life of the incarcerated and to understand how they go through a process of “marginalization”, according to the outsider concept of Elias and Socotson (1965) and “disciplinarization” according to the concept of Foucault. (2012), realizing how these structures are engendered in the social cycle of the inmates and their surroundings. The methodology used consisted of two stages; the first was the collection of census data on the prison reality of Brazil and Amapá; The second step was to conduct semi-structured interviews with IAPEN employees and managers. The results allowed us to realize that women who go through the process of incarceration in Amapá end up suffering social oblivion regarding their family nucleus, since in many cases their families are not aware of their prisons. In addition, the disciplinary process they go through promotes a loss and conflict regarding their autonomy as a woman.
