Planta professora: vídeo-documentário sobre o imaginário social e o aspecto terapêutico da ayahuasca em contexto religioso

Abstract

This memorial is about the documentary "Planta Professora: video-documentary on the social imaginary and the therapeutic aspect of ayahuasca in a religious context", 45 minutes long, the result of research that aims to record the use of ayahuasca tea in a religious context, a practice legalized in Brazil, by regulatory agency, since 1987 (LABATE; ROSE; SANTOS, 2008, p. 45). Because it is a hallucinogen the drink still carries a negative imaginary, ignoring possible benefits that the drink, eventually, can bring to human mental health, this perspective demonstrated in scientific research that has been conducted since the 90s, in the areas of mental health, psychiatry and biomedicine. This is the aspect of ayahuasca that we seek to present in the documentary, through the "story" of two young people in opposite mental conditions, as well as in testimonials from collaborators in psychiatry, mental health, religion, people who are part of the ayahuasca universe, and the general public. The product uses the expository, observational and performative approach in its narrative (Nichols, 2016, p.181).
