O Amapá: a mentalidade / mito de um vazio demográfico na Amazônia nos anos 1776-1940

Abstract

The research in question deals with the mentality of a demographic emptiness in the Amazon, which involves Amapá, from 1776 to 1940, because the lands of the North Cape, over the years, were reasons for diverse conflicts and interests, mainly in what consists to the riches that were there. Thus, the problem that motivated this research came from the following question: how did the construction of the mentality / myth of a demographic emptiness in the Amazon occurred in the years from 1776 to 1940? However, even with the various movements of people who went there to explore the region, many still saw the Amazon region, notably the region of the state of Amapá, as a void that would have to be solved through public policies. In this sense, the present work aimed to discuss how the process of construction of the mentality / myth about the demographic void in the region took place. Emphasizing, also, how the public policies were directed to put an end to this supposed emptiness
