Abstract

The transformation factors that occurred in the community of Lourenço after the departure of the New Astro Mining determined several social, economic and environmental impacts. The lack of knowledge in the area of cooperativism, led the community to chaos, with several actions through the PF and MP causing damage and disruption throughout the community because it depends directly on the garimpo. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the development of this locality, which depends exclusively on the 100-year-old mining industry that has been transformed into a community after exploring several companies. Methods: The study was done through investigations, interviews and observations of the community. Data collection of the cooperative with information, records and newspaper newsletters. Considering the migration and changes that occurred in the community before and after the departure of Empresa Novo Astro. Results and Discussion: the community depends exclusively on garipagem, without any other source of income. Its population is very fluctuating due to being an area of gold mining, where its greater migration was in the decades of 1980 and 1990 and a great part of the population is part of the cooperative and the other part declares cooperative and farmer. The largest population is migrant from the north and northeast. Conclusion: The study is an important discussion of a community marked by cares, abandonment, disintegration and ruptures, both in the social and family spheres. Other studies are needed, it is a community with problems, social, economic and environmental, so that state public authorities can strengthen the social organization of garimpeiros and transform Lourenço. And portray with public policies of social inclusion aimed at this class of workers that has always been treated in the margin of public policies and create a procedure more defined and adapted to the particular nature of that community.
