Resumo

Quality of life is the individual’s perception of his position in life in the context of the culture and value systems, in relation to his goals, concerns and expectations. Sexual health is a determining factor in the quality of life in aging men and the presence of sexual dysfunctions influence so much in male sexual quality of life. In this context, this research aimed: (a) to classify the sexual quality of life of men aged 18-69 years old at Macapa (AP), (b) to highlight which aspects of sexual domain in male quality of life have received influence of aging and (c) to calculate the global prevalence of premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation and hypoactive sexual desire. This cross-sectional quantitative probability sample study (n=385) was done in a demographically representative population of men aged 18 to 69 years old, living at Macapa, with data collected privately inside the participants’ houses. The classification of sexual quality of life and the prevalence of sexual dysfunctions were derived from the responses of a gender specific and nationally validated questionnaire called Male Sexual Quotient (MSQ). Statistical analysis was performed to determine the central tendency measures and to verify the level of significance between the different age groups with both sexual quality of life and sexual domains of male life. A response rate of 81.69% was achieved. The mean age of the sample was 36.00±12.95 years, with predominance of men with complete high school to incomplete college level of education (39.22%), brown-skinned (63.11%), self-employed workers (42.07%), with monthly earned income of 0 to 2 minimum wages (46.75%) and singles (36.10%). The mean sexual male quality of life was 80.39±12.14 (highly satisfied). There was an age-growth from 18 year-old men (79.99±12.82) to 35-39 years (85.91±10.85) and a subsequent age-decline to 65-69 years (72.44±18.44). Sexual quality of life is statistically significant when compared with age (p<0.01, Kruskal-Wallis test). In what concerns the male sexual domains, “desire” (p<0.01, Kruskal-Wallis test), “partner satisfaction” (p=0.04, Kruskal-Wallis test) and “erection quality” (p<0.01 – question 5, p=0.03 – question 6, p=0.02 – question 7, Kruskal-Wallis test) were statistically significant. Global prevalences of premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation and hypoactive sexual desire were, respectively, 36.54%, 6.50% and 11.69%. The results of this research indicate strong association of sexual quality of life and aging in male population at Macapa, primarily on factors such as sexual dysfunctions, socio-cultural and relationship aspects. Sexual dysfunction prevalence taxes are similar to those previously found in literature, except the premature ejaculation prevalence, which is bigger than Brazilian average, which is 25.8%
