Resumo

Parasitic infections are the most common Public Health problems, responsible for significant morbidity and mortality rates in the world, particularly in developing countries. This condition is worse in situations of floods when intestinal parasites are easily washed away with rain water over long distances, reaching a greater number of people. The Ferreira Gomes city, Amapá State, is annually hit by heavy rains leaving the municipality under the water. The aim of this work was investigate the prevalence of intestinal parasites during floods. The study was conducted during action promoted by several state and municipal agencies. As a complement, water samples were collected from Araguari River and reservoirs of treated water to check the potability of water. We analyzed 203 stool samples from patients aged 1 to 84 years by direct method and Hoffman method. 35.96% showed no parasitism and 64.04% were parasitized by 01 or more parasites. Intestinal parasites was prevalent in females (64.62%) than males (35.38%). About the absence and the presence of intestinal parasites, the both results were higher among patients 1-20 years old (32.87% and 36.15% respectively). From the 61 years old showed lowest frequency in both conditions, as well as those of patients who had reported their age (1.54%). Endolimax nana species was responsible for the positivity of 35.63% cases, followed by Entamoeba hystolitica with 24.70% cases. The lower frequency found were Hymenolepis nana (0.40%), Pentatrichomonas hominis (0.81%) and Trichiuris trichiura (3.24%). Also identified were positive for Ascaris lumbricoides 4.45% and 12.96% in Giardia intestinalis. The positivity between sexes was also higher for the E. nana in females (21.86%) than males (13.76%). A monoparasitism rate was observed in 37,69% of patients, being 37,5% of male patients and 62,5% of females patients and was the most frequent parasite was E. hystolitica (21.86%). As for multiple parasitic infections was found in 62,31% patients, with higher incidence among females (64.2%) and between aged 1- 20 years (51.86%). The most frequent association was between the species E. hystolitica/ E. nana (25.93%) and least among species H. nana / E. hystolitica, P.hominis / E.coli, T. trichiura / E. nana, A.lumbricoides / E.coli, G. intestinalis / E. coli / E. nana, A.lumbricoides / E.hystolitica / E.nana, P.hominis / E.coli / E.hystolitica / E.nana, A.lumbricoides / E.coli / E.hystolitica / E.nana and A.lumbricoides / G.intestinalis / E.hystolitica / E.coli / E.nana) showed only 1.23% case each one
