O processo de patrimonialização do marabaixo: o reconhecimento como patrimônio cultural imaterial nacional e as repercussões entre os marabaixeiros

Abstract

This article approaches the process of patrimonialisation of Marabaixo, seeks to analyze the stages that contribute to the recognition of this cultural asset as a national intangible cultural heritage, discusses the relationship between culture and heritage, and describes the notion of heritage and the difference between material and intangible assets. The text makes reference to what is the Marabaixo through the literary works of author’s specialists in this area. They expose the elements that compose this cultural manifestation, highlights the history of some persecutions suffered by marabaixeiros, mention the legislation that guarantees cultural right and access to cultural sources, the legal recognition of the Brazilian cultural heritage, the role of IPHAN as institution responsible for identification of cultural assets throughout the country and the elaboration of the inventory of cultural references of Marabaixo. It shows the results of the field research: the mobilizations that led the marabaixeiros to provoke the IPHAN to open the patrimonialisation process, the repercussions among the communities on the registration of intangible good, their reports on the changes that affect the cultural manifestation and their perspectives on state support, safeguarding, diffusion to society, and what Marabaixo represents for the marabaixeiros.
