Resumo
The practice of physical exercise is an important means for those who seek a better quality of life. There are several forms of physical training, they are Cross Training / CrossFit, which consists of performing high intensity and constantly varied movements. This modality became popular in Brazil in the last years, winning several followers in the city of Macapá - AP. The purpose of the study was to characterize the epidemiological profile of Cross Training / CrossFit practitioners in the city of Macapá - AP. An exploratory-descriptive, cross-sectional, and quantitative approach epidemiological study was carried out, sending a questionnaire that explored the socioeconomic, sociodemographic profile, aspects related to the training routine and an impact of injuries on Cross Training / CrossFit practitioners. The assigned variables were characterized through absolute and relative frequencies (in%), using the IBM SPSS program for statistical analysis, in which the chi-square independence test was performed, considering 5%, of significance level in the association between variables. The sample was comprised of 185 Cross Training / CrossFit practitioners, 66,5% women and 33,5% men, with a mean age of 31,1 years (± 7,06); the predominant color / race to brown (55,7%); single marital status (66,5%), higher education (77,8%) and income between 3 to 5 related (40,8%). Regarding practice, 80,0% trained daily for up to 1 hour, with a weekly frequency of 5 to 6 times (75,1%) and practice time of up to 6 months (37,3%). Approximately 53,0% were engaged in another sport and 33,5% participated in competitions. The injury rate was 33,0%, highlighting muscle stretching as the most incident (69,1%), the most affected place was the lumbar region (33,0%), there was a professional search for treatment of injuries in 77,0% of cases. The appearance of injuries is significantly associated when associated with higher weekly frequency (p = 0,010), longer practice time (p = 0,002) and also among competitors (p = 0,005). Thus, it was possible to observe that the higher the weekly frequency and time of practice, the greater the chances of developing injuries, as well as participation in competitions was also a relevant aspect for this outcome.
