Resumo
Objective: To analyze the main causes of hospitalizations in a neonatal intensive care unit located in the municipality of Macapá, capital of the State of Amapá, in 2022. Methods: This is a documentary, quantitative, descriptive analysis of a retrospective nature, performed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital da Mulher Mãe Luzia, in the municipality of Macapá, capital of Amapá. The nursing records book was used for data collection. After collection, the data were tabulated and subsequently analyzed with the help of the SPSS software version 26. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: The monthly average of admissions was 45 patients, with a standard deviation of ±7.46 patients, making a total of 535 neonates. The neonates had more than one reason for hospitalization, totaling 1,452 causes. It can be seen that respiratory difficulty and prematurity were the main causes of neonatal hospitalization, constituting 90.28% and 74.76% of the total causes, respectively, followed by infection, with 30.84%, and congenital malformation, with 20.56%. Conclusion: Given this, it is essential to know the causes of hospitalization to improve the quality of maternal and child care, especially in primary care.
