Resumo
The accidents caused by snakes of the Bothrops genus cause local and systemic manifestations, whose treatment is accomplished by administration of snakebite serum. However, the efficacy of serotherapy is limited only partially counteracting the pathologic changes locations, it is necessary to study possible therapeutic means complementary to this action. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of low
power laser Gallium Arsenate (904 nm), dose of 4 J/cm2, on local acute manifestations induced by the venom of Bothrops moojeni. This is an experimental study using Swiss webster mice of strain, where the dependent variables were evaluated: edema, nociception, inflammatory infiltrate and myonecrosis. To this end, the animals were divided into five groups: sterile saline solution control group; venom
control group; venom+serum group; venom+laser group and venom+laser+serum group. In organizing and analyzing data, we used analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey-Kramer test, with statistical significance level of 5% (p < 0.05). The results indicated that activity in relation to edema in the first hours after the administration of venom, only the animals venom+laser group showed a significant reduction of paw edema by 22,76%. From the sixth hour the animals of the group
venom+laser+serum had a significant reduction of edema in 10,5%. As for the nociceptive activity, only the animals in group venom+laser+serum showed a significant reduction in 36.29% (first phase) and 43.52% (second phase). Regarding the inflammatory infiltrate muscle, only animals of serum+venom groups and venom+laser+sorum had significant reduction in 20.69% and 22.42% respectively.
Regarding myonecrosis, the blades of the animals of the venom+laser+serum showed lower percentage of myonecrosis (60%) and major muscle regeneration (100%). It is concluded that in relation to edema and nociception in mice, the low power laser Gallium Arsenate (904 nm) was effective only when associated with the serum. In relation to the inflammatory infiltrate muscle, the laser exhibit efficacy when administered alone and when combined with serum. Regarding myonecrosis, animals venom+laser group showed muscle regeneration and a lower percentage of myonecrosis. Therefore, these results suggest that laser Gallium Arsenate (GaAs) can be considered an alternative therapy for the treatment of local effects caused by snakebite from Bothrops genus
