O modelo educacional da ICOMI (1961-1986)

Abstract

The establishment in the Federal Territory of Amapá of Indústria e Comércio de Minérios S.A (ICOMI) resulted in the creation of two company towns in the 1960s, one in Vila Amazonas, now the municipality of Santana, and the other in Serra do Navio. The nature of the company towns goes through a structural complex which includes schools, hospitals, and leisure areas. Among these structures, the ICOMI educational system became an instrument of the company which trained the workers to deepen their technical knowledge and, through their children, sought to form the ideal worker by disseminating within the schools the ICOMI ideals and the professional education propagated during the military dictatorship. This monograph sought to analyze through interviews of the social agents of the period, such as teachers and students from the Serra do Navio School, and articles from the ICOMI Notícias, how the education present in the company town of Serra do Navio became a mechanism consolidating your system.
