Resumo
The Objective Structural Clinical Examination (OSCE - Structured Objective Clinical
Examination) is a methodology for assessing clinical competences, which has been
used worldwide since 1970 after being described by Harden, while in Brazil its use is
more recent. However, studies evaluating its effectiveness and acceptability among
students are still scarce. This research aimed to collaborate in the production of data
that can support the efficiency of the model in question through the description and
analysis of qualitative and quantitative aspects. In order to achieve these results, the
general objective was to investigate the nursing student's perception of the OSCE in
the 9th semester in academic training and the teachers' view through a focus group.
With a quantitative and qualitative approach, the evaluation describes statistically,
using SPSS version 21.0, and in the focus group the data and analyzes were through
the method recommended by Bardin, bipolarizing the subcategories in positive and
negative aspects and sometimes neutral, with six most prevalent themes for the
possibility of implementing the evaluation system. A semi-structured questionnaire was
used, using the Linkert scale, answered by 24 students. The answers were categorized
and frequented, in such a way that the main results were reached: With strongly
disagree on average of 2.69%, disagree 10.36%, uncertain 10.41%, agree 46.43% and
in the end strongly agree 33.75%. It is partially concluded that the OSCE can be used
as an evaluation practice, and can contribute to the academic training and learning of
undergraduate nursing students, with the possibility, therefore, of changes in the
evaluation system.
