Resumo
Leishmaniasis is a set of parasitic diseases caused by intracellular protozoa of the genus Leishmania, affecting about two million people each year and, therefore, classified as a public health problem. Knowing that derivatives of plant species have shown potential for the development of new therapies, the objective was to analyze in vitro the leishmanicidal activity of the vegetable oil Protium heptaphyllum and the nano- emulsion prepared from it, this research aims to contribute to the treatment of Leishmania adding to drugs in conventional treatments and/or thus improving the therapeutic response of individuals. To carry out the activity, a 96-well plate was used, and added to the oil and nano-emulsion solutions under study at different concentrations. The assay was performed in triplicate. Plates were incubated at 25° for 24 and 48 hours. As for leishmanicidal activity, all showed moderate activity against the strains evaluated with the appropriate inhibition concentrations: (IC50 = 0.01 of the oil in 24h, IC50 = 0.0107 of the oil in 48h, IC50 = 0.692 with nano in 24h, IC50 = 0.0117 with nano in 48 hours)
