Resumo

The Youth and Adult Education - EJA in Brazil went through a great social historical process, in which its legitimation took years to be conquered. It has become a consolidated reality, benefiting many students who place in it the last hope of completing their studies. However, it is also common to observe the high rate of evasion, generating costs and a need for research. In this sense, this study aims to verify the causes and consequences of the high dropout rate in the Education of Young and Adults - EJA in the State School Professor Francisco Walcy Lobato Lima, as well as to check the major influences of the abandonment of school life, internal factors or external, and to point out the consequences to the school of this high index. Through a field research, the information needed to carry out the study was searched together with the evolved students of the EJA modality, so the data were described through a descriptive research of a quantitative approach, where students were evaded from the EJA in the municipality of Santana. After collecting the data, they were quantified, described in graphs and analyzed together with a theoretical contribution based mainly on the ideas of Freire (1995), Haddad (2016) and Portela (2016). As a result, it is possible to point out that the students who had been evicted from the EJA had a good relationship with the teachers, most of whom are women, above the age of 30 and among the main reasons that led them to drop out of school, caring for the home and family, and not having a formal job.
