Resumo

This Dissertation: “IT’S A MATTER OF SKIN, IT’S A MATTER OF COLOR, CURIAÚ SHOWS YOUR FACE!: THE CULTURAL AND INSTITUTIONAL IDENTITY OF ESCOLA QUILOMBOLA STATE JOSÉ BONIFÁCIO” aimed to investigate the circumstances that gave rise to the Project “Curiaú Shows Yourself Cara” and how it has been interpreted and executed by the school through the perspective of school management, project teams and teachers of the curricular components of History, Arts, Literature, Religious Education and Geography in the final years of Elementary School. Furthermore, observe how the implementation of anti-racism legislation is taking place at the José Bonifácio State Quilombola School following the implementation of Law no. 10,639/03 and Resolution no. 08/2012. The study consists of a qualitative case study approach and data was collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, application of questionnaires, analysis of planning notebooks and letters (2004-2022). The results point to the collective effort of the school community to guarantee an Afro-referenced curriculum; however, its performance has come up against some recurring problems such as the lack of engagement on the part of some teachers in project actions during the school year, the lack of financial resources to cover project expenses, for this reason the financial disbursement (high cost) has been the responsibility of the project team. Furthermore, teacher turnover has resulted in the implementation of an Afro-referenced curriculum. We discussed gamification and presented this methodology to the school community aiming at its use and employment for didactic pedagogical purposes by school teachers as a methodological strategy so that they can combine the technological base with quilombola school education and, finally, the indication of the construction of a didactic-pedagogical resource about the project on screen as a possibility to stimulate and contribute to the identity of the quilombo for newly arrived teachers and the entire school community, collaborating in the protection of traditional knowledge in the school with the aim of developing the guarantee of identity of Afro descendant culture, following the guidelines of Law no. 10,639/03, Resolution no. 08/2012 and the National Curricular Guidelines.
