Resumo
Currently, with the growing representation and engagement of the deaf community in previously
unfrequented spaces, such as universities, political spaces, cultural events, there has been a significant increase in
the demand for interpretation in the Libras-Portuguese language pair, since most of society does not know or
dominates Libras. Due to this predominance, translators-interpreters have reported some difficulties in the task of interpreting the referred language pair. Some of these difficulties were presented in the investigations of
Chaibue and Aguiar (2016), Lourenço (2018), Lima (2020) and Nascimento (2012). The present study is part of
a research with a quali-quantitative approach (KNECHTEL, 2014), whose main objective is to present the
challenges of simultaneous interpretation in the Libras-Portuguese direction pointed out by professional
translators-interpreters working in the State of Amapá. As specific objectives, we sought to: (i) indicate possible
reasons that generate difficulties in this direction, (ii) compare the level of training of less experienced
interpreters (Group 1) with more experienced ones (Group 2), and finally (iii) analyze if the level of education
and the time of performance are conditioning factors that impact on the interpretive task, in addition to
registering which strategies are used and possible suggestions. The difficulties pointed out were morphosyntactic
questions related to time, comprehension of the utterance, problems due to the rhythm of the signaling, the lack
of preparation itself and mainly the effects of the difference in modality between the languages. The work was of
great importance, as professionals will know where to dedicate their efforts to mitigate or remedy the problems
in their demands, collaborating for a unique performance.
