Resumo
This research aims to investigate the historical background of two Amazonian women in
relation to access in higher education and analyze the conditions of their current presence in
this level of education. It is based on an initial qualitative bibliographical study to verify the
changes that occurred in the history of Brazil in relation to the conditions of female schooling,
specifically in what refers to higher education in the Amazon. The following presents the
experience reports of both at the Federal University of Amapá - UNIFAP Campus Santana,
which analyzed the current conditions of access and permanence of women in this university.
It was possible to verify that the female access to higher education is recent, dating from the
1960s its effective entrance, but that today it predominates in this level of education in a
general way. In the author's reports, the mass presence of working-class and low-income
students was found, with the majority female, in undergraduate degrees. The socioeconomic
conditions, the previous schooling of the students and the insertion of the women in certain courses are other variants discussed here. It is considered that this analysis helps in the understanding of the economic and cultural factors that interfere in the educational and professional situation of the Brazilian woman, constituting an important theoretical tool to subsidize their struggles.
