Resumo

Mortality statistics are indispensable for the construction of health indicators of a population, including the deaths related to pregnancy period, and more specifically, to directly and indirectly linked to obstetric conditions, chamandas Deaths Maternal Obstetric (MMO) usually represented by the Reason of maternal Mortality (RMM), which takes into account the number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births (LB); We conducted a cross-sectional, observational, documentary, exploratory, retrospective information base deaths check service data and Statistics and Medical Service (SMAS) of Hospital da Mulher Mãe Luzia (HMML) of Macapá- AP. They observed 45 deaths direct and indirect obstetric maternal deaths that occurred within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the location of pregnancy and patients of ages between 10 and 49 years and 35,724 live births from January 1, 2011 to December 31 2015 in HMML. The RMM found in the range from 2011 to 2015 was 125.97 / 100000 NV; the patient who goes to death more frequently from maternal causes in HMML is between 20 and 29 years (37.8%), coming from Macapa (62.2%), Parda (53.3%) and direct obstetric causes ( 75.6%), the main one being the hypertensive disorders (22.2%). There was a high rate of failure to complete the schooling variables (73.3%) and race / color (42.2%). The study showed consistent profile with the general developing countries and a slight tendency to improvement of the indicators. In this period a likely improvement was observed in completing death certificates, research and reporting of maternal deaths in the institution; but still great need for more human and financial resources, it is still a large number of preventable maternal deaths.
