Resumo

Quantum chemistry describes the fundamental behavior of matter on the molecular scale, and due to its abstract character, it is no surprise that it is a difficult subject for students to learn. In this context, the present work aims to present a methodology for teaching quantum chemistry concepts in high school through the use of computational simulations. To support this work, we used qualitative and quantitative research, which was consolidated in a case study, aimed at a class of 1st year of High School, State School Professor José Barroso Tostes. Simulations of experimental activities with contents already seen in lectures by the students were carried out, where they were evaluated based on the participation and knowledge demonstrated in the practices. Knowing the difficulty of students in assimilating and learning chemistry, we suggest the use of Information and Communication Technology in the classes of this discipline. After analyzing the results of the proposed activities, it can be concluded that the use of computational simulations can contribute decisively to the teaching and learning process, providing a motivating environment, stimulating student participation and promoting a meaningful learning of concepts. As a relevant result of the work developed, the successful experience in introducing concepts of quantum chemistry for students was highlighted, with an approach that allowed their active participation. The analysis of the data by means of pre and post-questionnaires showed that it is possible to obtain a satisfactory and significant learning, with the use of computational simulation
