Resumo

Consolidated urban occupation requires services and adequate infrastructure to allow an efficient use of public open spaces by citizens. This research analyzes the Tourist Complex Jandiá, situated in the New Town neighborhood of waterfront in Macapá, State of Amapá, extreme north of Brazil, on the banks of the Amazon River. Urban edges are prone to different types of use: road traffic, sports practices, leisure, cultural activities, contemplation, environmental preservation, among others. However, the study area is not valued as a recreational space, in contrast, is recognized by the public as a place unsafe dominated the practice of illegalities. Through field visit it was found that the area has problems such as accessibility, pollution of water resources, lack of afforestation, public insecurity and lack of maintenance of urban equipment. Conjectured, the research aims to propose a space revitalization project, with new urban facilities for recreation and contemplation, setting up a new social and environmental image of public space for the community in which the preservation of water resources and use for leisure help improve the quality of life. The guiding methodology of this study consisted of two stages, the first of the literature of the concepts that explain the urban public open spaces (MACEDO, 1999; MAGNOLI, 2006; KLIASS & MAGNOLI, 2006; among others). The second stage was the diagnosis in the study area through data collection on site, interviews, questionnaires and photographic records, which resulted in graphics and overlay of thematic maps designed in AutoCAD and CorelDraw software. The results confirmed the existence of dissatisfaction and lack of identity with the current project, which entails the dispersal of local residents to other neighborhoods that have a consolidated infrastructure. The lack of interest from government agencies to invest in environmental education of the community in appreciation and preservation of areas of environmental and social interest for public use, supports for the abandonment and degradation of space. With this analysis has emphasized the need for urban intervention with the proposal for a new space on the edge with better accessibility, forestation, green infrastructure, natural drainage of rainwater and modern leisure facilities, and public policies for the preservation and maintenance of collective space, in order to improve the quality of life of the population.
