Introduction: Aging is a process inherent in life, being defined as a progressive process, universal and irreversible which contribute to the onset of diseases such as DM2 and geriatric syndromes highlighting the FS. Objective: Analyze the frailty syndrome in elderly patients with DM2. Methods: 30 diabetic type 2 elderlies were interviewed and data collection was conducted through a structured questionnaire containing sociodemographic and clinical variables and criteria for frailty syndrome. For characterize elderlies about the fragility, was considered the phenotype proposed by Fried et al. (2001). The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, followed by bivariate analysis with the Fisher’s exact test. Results: The prevalence of frailty was 56.7% of the sample. Analyzing the factors associated with frailty in elderly patients with DM2, the gender presented 70.6% for women and 29.4% for men (p = 1.000), the elderlies’ age range of G1 was 75 to 79 years (46.1 %), in contrast the higher prevalence of G2 was 60 to 64 years (41.2%) (p = 0.299); prevalence in the G1: widowers (69.2%) (p = 0.041), Caucasian (58.8%) (p = 0.281), who worked 52.9% (p = 0.465), those concluded the elementary school 35.3% (p = 0.500), those who had higher income between 1-2 minimum wages 41.2% (p = 0.721) and time since diagnosis between 25 to 48 months (47.1%) (p = 1.000). Conclusion: There was observed a high prevalence of frailty syndrome in elderlies with DM2, suggesting diabetes may be an agent that accelerates or anticipates the onset of FS. Therefore, it is necessary a structuring of programs and organization of public healthcare policies in Brazil, providing stimulus to healthy lifestyle habits and delay the negative effects of DM2 and consequently the FS in these elderlies
