Resumo

The Burnout syndrome, first reported in 1970, comes as a response to chronic interpersonal stressors occurring at work situation. It is supported by three pillars: Emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced professional fulfillment. It usually occurs in individuals whose occupations carry relational responsibilities; doctors are among the most affected ones, especially surgeons, who need constant attention and dexterity, predisposing them to excessive stress and psychiatric illness. Objective: To quantify the prevalence of burnout syndrome in medical surgeons in Amapá. Method: Quantitative and qualitative study developed from March 2016 to August 2016, with the target population of surgeons of Amapá. Researchers: Two surgeons and two academic course of medicine at the Federal University of Amapá. The situational questionnaire (TCLE) and Maslash Burnout Inventory questionnaire (MBI) were applied. Results: There was a predominance of males, the average age was 42.76 years, mostly married or in stable relationships with over 10 years of medical training, up to 4 monthly night shifts. General surgeons and others from eleven subspecialties took the survey. Regarding the MBI questionnaire, about a quarter of respondents have high EE, the same number with high DP level, and just over ten percent with low RP. Discussion: 2.94% of the applicants match the criteria for the diagnosis of burnout syndrome. 38.23% showed alterations in at least one of the three spheres. The subspecialties that the worst results were: Vascular Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Neurosurgery and Urology. Conclusion: Although this group has a SB index greater than the general population, it has lower levels than those found worldwide.
