Resumo
The present work approached the problem of deviant behavior through the work of playwright Mário Bortolotto. The general objective was to analyze some plays by the playwright, among them “And We Were All Thunderbirds” and “Hotel Lancaster” that are composed of some characters “outsiders”: prostitute, drug user, bum, delinquent, bohemian. Thus, one of the focuses of the research was to use the behaviors and practices of the deviant characters of the playwright to show what their lives are like and reflect on their actions. Bibliographic research was adopted as a methodology, based on Howard Becker's (2008) thinking about “outsiders” and his deviation sociology, Erving Goffman (2008) with his theory of stigma on identity. It was found that the deviation is the clash of identities and the counterpoint between them is that it allows the existence of deviant behavior, this is only characterized as such through the labeling and objection of others; the labeling not only weakens and stigmatizes the “outsiders”, but also makes it possible to adopt a shallow and uncommitted view of the social being that deviates from the norms of the group.
