Perfil fitoquímico do extrato etanólico da Eleutherine plicata Herb

Abstract

Natural products are important sources of new chemical substances with alternative biological potential, thus, there is a need to know the active principles of the various species present in the Amazon. In this context, in order to contribute to the interface between popular knowledge and scientific knowledge, Eleutherine plicata Herb, belonging to the Iridaceae family, was chosen for this study, popularly known as marupazinho, found in tropical America, including the dry grasslands of the Amazon, it is commonly used by the local population for the treatment of intestinal infection and cancer treatment. According to the literature, its biological activity, from the ethanol extract of its bulbs, is related to the presence of quinones. In this sense, the following condition was established as a general objective: To characterize the phytochemical profile of the ethanol extract of the bulbs of Eleutherine plicata Herb. by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and isolating the major compounds identified in the extract. With this, 3 g of ethanolic lyophilized extract of the bulbs was used, followed by a hexane, chloroformic and acetyl fractionation, then each fraction was analyzed by GC - EM and identified 4 substances mostly present in the hexane extract. Then, the hexane extract was purified by column chromatography with silica gel 60, using ethyl acetate and hexane as eluent, then the compounds were elucidated by mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and Infrared (IR) spectroscopy.
