Resumo

This article approached the difficulties faced by students from the rural communities of the Paraense Amazon due to the lack and/or precariousness of school transportation for the riverside children, establishing the connections with the teaching-learning process of the students of the Santo André Municipal School, Anajás-PA. The objective of the study was to investigate the implications of the teaching-learning process of the students, due to the difficulties they faced on the way to the school institution. The research was carried out at the Municipal School of Santo André, through a qualitative research, of the case study type. It had as an instrument of data collection the observation, interview with three teachers, images and drawings of students from 1st to 5th year of Elementary School. The conclusive approximations show that students face numerous challenges to reach the school, traveling long distances on bicycles, vessels, which do not meet the safety requirements for the transport of students, and on foot, subject to attacks by animals in the forest. Through this situation, the quality of the teaching/learning process is compromised, as children arrive at school exhausted, tired and unmotivated; beyond that, many of them are absent due to lack of school transportation. Therefore, teachers have difficulties to develop their educational practices in a way that can ensure all the necessary conditions for the children's learning.
