Resumo
The increasing capacity of Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms to produce personalized
content and generate knowledge challenges traditional pedagogical practices. This
advancement calls upon educational institutions to reflect on the adoption of new educational
technologies in undergraduate education and to implement actions for their integration. This
study examines the influence of AI use on academic performance, based on the perceptions of
students, teachers, and managers of higher education institutions (HEIs). With a sample of 284
observations from a questionnaire applied to undergraduate students and teachers, a multiple
linear regression model was estimated to test four study hypotheses. A complementary
qualitative stage was also conducted, with interviews applied to managers of educational
institutions. The results indicated that regular use of AI increases students' academic
performance in undergraduate studies by promoting rapid assimilation of content and offering
dynamic and adaptive resources. On the other hand, the technological dependence resulting
from the excessive use negatively affects academic performance, as this linear relationship
compromises essential skills such as critical thinking and creativity. The results offer
opportunities for managers and institutions to debate ethical challenges and seek strategies to
deal with the transformations that AI is causing in the learning environment.
