A cidade encantada de Afuá (PA): um estudo do imaginário amazônico (1983-2007)

Abstract

This study it's located in the field of the imaginary and intends to discuss the visual, mental and verbal images produced by the community of residents of the city of Afuá - PA. We aim to understand the process of reframing the elements that make up the Afuaense imaginary and the relationships that the population establishes with their time and space based on the belief in the existence of enchanted people. This work has as main contribution the understanding of how the riverside populations appropriate elements of nature in the construction of symbolic projections, ways in which they narrate and give meaning to their earthly experiences. For this, the concepts of imaginary, representation and enchanted were used. As a methodological resource we have used the quantitative and qualitative method, the dense description by Geertz (1989) and oral history. The Afuaense imaginary undergoes constant reframing, attesting that the city has been going through a process of disenchantment starting the slow and gradual disappearance of the narratives about enchanted ones.
