Resumo
Introduction: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive and neurodegenerative disease. Being characterized by the presence of symptoms such as: bradykinesia, tremor, stiffness and postural instability. However, it is known that PD still has no cure, but other mechanisms to alleviate and minimize the effects of disease progress are currently available. Aerobic physical activity has been increasingly promising and beneficial for individuals with PD, studies show results related to aerobic exercise bike training and improves the mobility of PD patients. However, there is a need to know the best effects that this activity can allow patients with PD after a short period of intervention. Objectives: To evaluate the effect of aerobic physical activity on the gait speed of individuals with Parkinson's disease participating in an extension project at the Federal University of Amapá (UNIFAP). Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study, with individuals of both sexes, diagnosed with PD under dopaminergic replacement treatment and participating in an extension project at UNIFAP. They will be evaluated using the 10-meter gait speed test; sit and stand test (STDP5X) and questionnaire on the perception of freezing gait, the Freezing of Gait Questionnaire - FOG-Q and will undergo aerobic physical activity training on the exercise bike. Results: Thirteen elderly individuals with a mean age of 62.5 years were evaluated, 9 (69.2%) of whom were male, with an average diagnosis of 44.7 months and with low perception of freezing (FOG = 7.3), who did not show significant differences in gait speed and performing the functional task after the 5 sessions of aerobic activity (P> 0.05). Final considerations: The gait speed of individuals with PD participating in the UNIFAP extension project did not increase after five aerobic training sessions on an exercise bike during two weeks
