Uma comunidade amazônica no contexto contemporâneo: a margem do rio Cachoeirinha

Abstract

To analyze socio-cultural conditions of the riverside community Margem do Rio Cachoeirinha in the context of contemporary society is the main objective of this work, which is structured in two chapters. In the first one, it will be seen that the community is born in a context that considers itself part of the reality Amazon region, where the influence of unique ways of life is perceptible in the community dynamics, as analyzed by the main livelihood - fishing - and from the main individualization-socialization group - the family, and emphasized by the discussion of authors cited as Boff (1999a), Loureiro (1992), Loureiro (1995) and Ribeiro (1995). The second chapter will deal with the insertion of this riverside community in the context of society contemporary art through two modern vehicles, television and school, emphasizing the issue of the symbolic imagery that local residents have on modernity and the influence of “consumerism”, as discussed by authors cited (GIDDENS, 1991; HORKHEIMER, 1989; MORIN, 2000 and ORTIZ, 2000). The study of the Cachoeirinha River Bank leads us to consider that there are, locally, socio-cultural conditions of the original Amazonian cultural context, but the influence of the modern symbolic imagery already leads to the weakening of essential traits and the introduction of new habits and values ​​typical of the modern society.
