Resumo

Sociology, as we know it today, is a recent discipline. Its origins date back to the nineteenth century, where thinkers such as Auguste Comte, Emile Durkheim, Karl Marx and Max Weber sought to understand the cause of the great transformations that the world was going through and the impact of these events on social life. They therefore tried to understand their time. Despite the more than one hundred years of the discipline, in Brazil, his study went through several phases of inclusion and exclusion. Excluded from the high school curriculum by the Military Dictatorship (1964-1985), the discipline was again compulsory only in 2008, through Federal Law No. 11,684 / 08 on 02/06 of that year. From the inclusion of sociology teaching in middle level education, this article aims to understand how the study of the classics of the discipline - Marx, Durkheim and Weber -, can contribute to the formation of students. Due to the great political, economic and social transformations that Brazil is going through, it is believed that it is of fundamental importance to read the classics in contemporary times as well as the understanding of how their theories still can and are of great utility for the understanding of social phenomena recently.
