"Os tempos insanos", de Fernando Canto, como alegoria política do Brasil bolsonarista

Abstract

This article intends to make a reading of Brazil in the period of the rise of Jair Bolsonaro's speech to the presidency of the republic in the 2018 elections, based on the narrative of the short story "Os tempos insanos", by the writer from Pará but based in Amapa, Fernando Canto. Published in 1995, in the book O Bálsamo e outros cantos insanos, this tale recalls the context of the military dictatorship in Brazil around ten years after the “Diretas Já” (1984) movement, marking the end of military governments since the 1964, but can also be read as allegory of the environment that determined the rise of extreme right-wing ideas facing current Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. In this sense, in addition to being a tale that alludes to the military coup of 1964 in Brazil, "Os tempos insanos", through the content of the letters that form this narrative, serve as a key to reading and interpretation for the current framework of Brazilian politics, which has imposed, among other measures and ideas, administrative forms closer to a theocratic state based on moral and moralizing norms (a dangerous mixture of fundamentalist and militarist ideas) than from a secular state, as the 1988 Federal Constitution preaches
