Resumo

The objective was to analyze the importance of family care for people with mental disorders and their participation in a Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS) and thus identify the sociodemographic profile, stigmas/prejudices and the role of family members in the treatment of family members with mental disorders. This is a qualitative research of a descriptive nature. The study audience consisted of 5 subjects and data were collected through an individual interview guided by a semi-structured script, using Bardin's content analysis. This research project complies with the guidelines regarding research with human beings and in accordance with resolution 466/12 CNS/CONEP. The importance of CAPS in the lives of family caregivers was classified into two analytical categories, intrinsic and extrinsic benefits, and with this empirical categories of analysis were created based on the objective of the study and the statements made by the subjects: “learning”, “emotional” and “psychological” as intrinsic and “coexistence” and “communication” as extrinsic, with the most frequent coming from the “learning” reports. In view of the above, the importance of the family member being included in the treatment of the family member with a mental disorder was explained, and being part of the family support group offered by CAPS – AD results in learning from the family member with a mental disorder, resulting in an improvement in the clinical picture of this person, the family caregiver and everyone in their environment.
