A atuação do grupo expert em Ciências Sociais na construção da política internacional Antártica

Abstract

The Antarctic continent has been treated under many perspectives, from an economic vision about its resources to those related to environment. This work focuses in a different perspective about Antarctica through the epistemic communities‟ theory developed by Peter M. Haas. With this research, we intend to define the evolution of the participation of the scientists in Antarctica since the International Polar Years to the foundation of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) as well as its contribution to Antarctica Treaty System. Moreover, this work analyzes the Expert Group of Humanities and Social Sciences of this Committee and how its members help to shape the preferences of certain countries in the context of Antarctica politics
