Resumo

The aim of this work was investigate tipology of narrators proposed by Friedman (1946 - ), considering that the concept of narrator is intricated to the narrative focus concept. We can find these concepts in his text “Point of view in fiction: The development of a critical concept”, published in 2002. The study of this author works with four types of narrator and he also classify four types of narrative focus. So, for that analysis takes place, the short story “The Black Cat”, by Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849), was chosen for corpus in this article, whose text is included in Histórias Extraordinárias, published in 2005, its version was translated and adapted by Clarice Lispector (1920-1977). In our research we can verify that the type of narrator found in the tale is the protagonist narrator, where its narrative focus is through selective omniscience
