Relações internacionais Brasil-Suriname: questões da diplomacia econômica entre 1975 e 2013

Abstract

The international relations between the South American nations have gone through several transformations throughout history. Understand them is essential so that we can visualize the different paths built on the continent. Such changes cause significant alterations in the territories of the countries, which ones are the key to the geopolitical construction of the relationship between Brazil and Suriname. The former Dutch colony was the last country in Latin America to achieve its sovereignty. The focus of this research are commercial diplomatic relations between Brazil and Suriname, highlighting the agreements made between the years 1975, year of independence of Surinam, to 2013 – a period in which Brazil began to adopt a focused foreign policy for the countries of the South America continent. This discussion is developed from the issue: How to understand bottlenecks of low commercial relationship between Brazil and Suriname, since the countries are geographically close and considering the imminent entry of Surinam in Mercosur? The methodology used is documentary analysis, including international treaties and official documents of both countries related to economic/commercial cooperation, and literature review
