O caminho para a reunificação da península coreana: a trajetória das relações intercoreanas (1948-2018)

Abstract

This research work aims to show the path of negotiations between the two Koreas and to understand the main reasons of the conflict behind the political unification of the Korean Peninsula. To achieve that, this work uses the comprehensive perspective of International Security Studies proposed by the Copenhagen School to investigate the main causes of conflict in the Korean Peninsula and its effects on the global and regional dynamics of relationship in the international stage, as well as to demonstrate in detail the inter-Korean negotiations in the last 70 years and the origins of the ideological, political and economical barriers to build an effective and lasting peace regime in Northeast Asia, as its main goal is to eradicate the current armistice and put an end to the 1953 Korean War. The present analysis proves that, to this day, it’s impossible to precise the future of the Korean Peninsula, however, the recurrent changes in the Cold War patterns of relationship between the two Koreas is very promising due to the desecuritization process, as it facilitates the cooperation and dialogue to resolve conflicts pacifically and it can be a way to negotiate more fruitful possibilities to the Korean political unification in the near future.
