Resumo

Brazilian funk, a popular musical genre, has made its way through the years with the use of lyrics considered suggestive and degrading to the image of women; today, however, it is possible to see that certain artists and groups – majoritarily women or leaded by one – have been claiming their space with lyrics that go on the opposite direction. Thus, this essay aims to conduct, in light of Critical Discourse Analysis and having as theoretical contribution Moita Lopes (2002), Stuart Hall (2006), Judith Butler (2003), Michel Foucault (1988), Simone de Beauvoir 1970), Marina Caetano (2015) and Van Dikj (1993), a study about the language used in lyrics of Brazilian funk in Brasil, investigating said change. To do that, songs lyrics by artists MC Sabrina, MC Carol and the group Gaiola das Popozudas were used, compared to another song lyrics by group Bonde do Tigrão, in order to point out that the discourse propagated within this musical genre indeed underwent a change, where the compositions analyzed reflected the way contemporary feminism influenced the funk movement. From the comparative analysis it was possible to conclude that, although they do not reflect all female productions in funk, the lyrics of the songs and the chosen artists represent an important movement for the women inserted within the majoritarily peripheral context that is Brazilian funk, confirming that feminism has a direct link with this growing search for speeches that empower the female figure in this musical genre.
