Resumo
This article aims to analyze the impact of the implementation of Free Shops in the municipality of Oiapoque, located on the French-Brazilian border, with an emphasis on their potential contribution to local development. The research explores the economic, social and geographical specificities of the region, assessing how these stores can transform border commercial dynamics and their implications in the context of the regional bioeconomy. The methodological approach is based on a bibliographic review and documentary analysis. The theoretical analysis is based on authors such as Susan Strange, who focuses on the influence of global economic structures on local policies, Pierre Bourdieu, who contributes to the notions of social and symbolic capital, and Aníbal Quijano, who discusses the impact of the coloniality of power on economic and social practices in peripheral regions. In addition, the study examines Brazilian legislation on Free Shops in order to understand the legal framework that regulates these stores and their applicability to the Amazonian context.
