Resumo
This work has as its theme the knowledge of high school students about Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), adolescence addressing which isn’t only the sexual stage discovery and initiation of the majority of young people, but also the age group with the highest incidence of these diseases . Therefore, there is a need to invest in prevention guidelines with this public and the school is a suitable place to carry out such guidelines, being a space in which the human being passes a long and important stage of his life. In this sense, the objective of this study was to analyze the knowledge of high school youths in four schools in the Mazagão city about STIs. Data collection was done through a questionnaire with ten closed questions. 109 high school students from four schools, two urban state: Fagundes Farela and Dom Pedro I and two peasant families schools: EFAC and EFAEXMA participated in the study. Data analysis was performed using the Anova tests (to assess whether there was a significant difference in the positive frequencies answers from schools) and Tukey test (to assess whether there was a statistical difference between the questions and between the schools). Thus the Anova test didn’t find significant results. The Tukey test found significant differences between the questions and between the schools. So young people know what STIs are (91%), they know the contagion forms (98.34%), the prevention forms (98%) and at least one STIs (95.84%). They also receive family guidance (82%) and have an approach in their schools on the subject (98%). However, few people know the symptoms (33.51%), didn’t have contact with people who have STI (19.78%), don’t test (31%), nor talk about it (48.99%) . Thus, although the students present some knowledge, it is noted that this is superficial and insufficient. It is therefore of paramount importance that educational institutions, together with health agencies and family groups, intensify the approach to STIs, so that young people can receive concrete knowledge that can lead them to engage in healthy and conscious sexual behaviors . By comparing the answers obtained about the SITs of the students of the urban and rural schools, it can be seen that the teaching of STIs in rural schools (EFAC and EFAEXMA) isn’t inferior to that of urban schools (Fagundes Varela and Dom Pedro I)
