Mapeamento dos conflitos inter e intraestatais na região das Guianas (Brasil, República Cooperativa da Guiana, Suriname, Guiana Francesa e Venezuela): uma abordagem multidimensional de segurança

Abstract

This work mapped and categorized the existing intra and inter-state conflicts in the Guyana Region from a multidimensional approach to security. This region is composed by five countries, Brazil, French Guiana, Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela. The security dynamics of these countries are complex and involve various levels of analysis, actors and conflict items. The conflict analysis methodology developed by the Heidelberg Institute for International Conflict Research was used as a methodological contribution. Outbreaks of internal and external conflict were identified, such as conflicts over land between indigenous communities and the State, as evidenced in the case of Guyana and Suriname; interstate conflicts are also very present, with all the countries studied, with the exception of Brazil, present a territorial dispute; and there were still political conflicts, as in the case of Venezuela; conflicts related to illegal immigration and their implications for the internal dynamics of some countries, such as Cooperative Republic of Guyana and French Guiana, were also identified; in Brazil there were conflicts related to land disputes, with indigenous communities and the Landless Workers Movement as actors, and a violent crisis between the state and criminal factions
