Resumo

This dissertation addresses the National Program for the Integration of Vocational Education with Basic Education in the Youth and Adult Education Modality (PROEJA). The main objective was to analyze the profile and expectations of students seeking vocational training at PROEJA, at the Federal Institute of Amapá (IFAP). It was based on the perspective that the implementation of public policies, including educational ones, are related to the interests of the ruling classes, the interests of capital and the demands of the market, undertaking policies and programs aimed at training workers. This leads to the provision of basic or vocational technical courses in order to promote general or specific qualification in a light manner for young people, adults and even older people. Contradictorily, social public policies also derive from the historical struggle of the working class and social movements from the perspective of broadening rights. The theoretical and methodological foundations that support the research are based on historical-dialectical materialism. Regarding the approach, considering that it was intended to learn information regarding the profiles and expectations of subjects, this proposal was characterized as quantitative and qualitative, besides constituting a field research. Data seizure was performed by applying questionnaires. The study had as its investigative locus IFAP, specifically the academic units that offer PROEJA. The research subjects were students enrolled in the ongoing classes of vocational training courses. The results indicate that PROEJA students in the Amapá Amazon are mostly working class young people and low-income adults from historically excluded and socially marginalized racial groups. When resuming their school career, now interrupted, this group is driven by motivations that unfold in expectations related mainly to the acquisition of knowledge, professional qualification, better job arrangement and income improvement, anxieties considered met by less than half of the research subjects
