Resumo
The work Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) portrays the adventures of the Character Alice who comes upon to a white rabbit, decide to follow it and happens to her falling into the rabbit’s hole and inside it she gets to a fantastic place called Wonderland. In this world Alice lives a lot of extraordinary situations that makes her feels confused and question herself about her identity. In reason of the doubt about her identity, the Catepillar manifests as an important character who can help Alice to solve this dilema. Is through Catepillar’s actions that Alice reflects about the question: “Who are you?”. Through this premise, the purpose in this study is analysing the simbolic of the Caterpillar Character and its importance in the process of comprehension of Alice’s narrative identity and the changes that her identity go through in reason of the experiences she lives in Wonderland in the work Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Therefore, we going to use as theorical bases the theory of Paul Ricoeur about the concept of narrative identity (1991), (1997) and his study about the constitution of simbolic (1988) and the studies about fantastic literature of Tzvetan Todorov (2004).
