Resumo
The following article aims to analyze the contradictions of the militarization strategy in combating drug trafficking in the Brazilian state of Amapá. In the state, high rates of police lethality coexist with low drug seizures (cocaine and marijuana), within a context in which police violence is justified by the fight against drug trafficking. To this end, the phenomenon of militarization in Amapá and its relationship with police violence will be analyzed. The correlation between rates of Deaths Resulting from Police Violence (DRPV), Intentional Violent Deaths (IVD), and drug seizures will be examined in Amapá and other states in the northern region, especially Acre and Roraima, which present population numbers and territorial areas closer to those of Amapá. As methodology, a qualitative-quantitative approach was employed, using secondary sources such as the Brazilian Yearbook of Public Security (for quantitative analysis), and literature on drug trafficking and militarization (for qualitative research). As a result, it was found that militarized strategies to combat drug trafficking in Amapá have generated contradictory outcomes, with a significant contribution of the police to the IVD rate, accompanied by low drug seizures.
