Análise das manifestações patológicas no piso epóxi do Hospital da Criança e do Adolescente em Macapá-AP

Abstract

High-performance coating systems (HPC), particularly epoxy flooring, are widely used in hospital environments due to their mechanical resistance, ease of cleaning, and seamless finish—essential characteristics to ensure proper aseptic and safety conditions. However, execution failures, inadequate maintenance, and unfavorable environmental conditions may compromise their durability and performance. In this context, this study proposes an analysis of pathological manifestations observed in the epoxy flooring of the Children and Adolescent Hospital located in Macapá, Amapá, Brazil. The selected facility is a public pediatric hospital that provides healthcare services to children up to 15 years old and has been undergoing a prolonged renovation process without a defined completion deadline.The research includes a brief historical overview of epoxy resins, the formation of their polymeric network, and the classification of the flooring system applied, addressing its main technical requirements and practical application procedures. The methodology describes the execution stages of the epoxy flooring system at the hospital, evaluates the identified pathological manifestations, and presents technical recommendations. The main objective is to assess the current condition of the hospital epoxy flooring system, considering that approximately 60% of the environments have already received the epoxy coating. The study identifies the main pathologies, their probable causes, and proposes corrective measures.This research aims to contribute to the improvement of hospital building maintenance management and to provide technical support for the proper specification and application of high-performance flooring systems, especially in critical public healthcare environments in the state of Amapá.
